Shinichi Hoshi (1926-1997) of Tokyo was best known for his crisp "Short-Short" stories, sometimes called the "Haiku of Science Fiction." Having inspired many Japanese youth for decades, Hoshi's stories are now made into comic books, audio books, animation, drama and theatre. An NHK television series based on Hoshi's tales won an International Emmy award in Comedy in 2009.
